Endless desert, 7000km extremely tough long-distance race, it is what we say about Dakar Rally. Han Wei( race No 322) and his codriver Liao Ming lead Geely Auto Shell Lubricant Team to conquer the Dakar with their fearless heart. Even now, Han recalls the memory of 12-day-race, just fells like it is yesterday. The race makes his blood boil, and awakes his ambition to conquer the world. Finally Han and his team won the 10th place in the Dakar, and even placed as top 9 in three race day. He created the best score in Dakar since 2003. Han refresh the history of auto sports, lead the Chinese to step into the Top 1 group of international competition.
17th Jan 2002, the last Stage of Dakar, all the racers embraced their honor in Qiddiyah. Sines (No 305 of Automobile group) won his 3rd Champion in Dakar. Prince Attia played all his card in SS12 and gained 2nd place. Han Wei( race No 322) and his codriver Liao Ming lead Geely Auto Shell Lubricant Team to achieve 10th place with score of 46h50m24s and renew the Chinese record in Dakar.
SS12: from Haradh to Qiddiyah, cover 447 km distance, with 167km special track. In last part of competition, veterans of Dakar show their experience via stable performance. Though the stage ranking is waving mildly, no affect to the overall ranking. These 167 special track do not bring too much surprise to audience.
Finally Han and his team won the 10th place in the Dakar, and even placed as top 9 in three race day. He created the best score in Dakar, change the impression of Chinese racer in world . Han refresh the history of auto sports, lead the Chinese to step into the Top group of international competition. How wonderful achievement has Han made!
Reviewing the whole competition, 322 vehicle does not ride smoothly in every stage, suffering ball cage damage, flat tire accident. Though obstructions occur, Han Wei and Liao Ming perform stably. The gold partners hugged each other with tear in their eyes, when they were standing on the receiving platform in Qiddiyah.
In a post-match interview, Han Wei says:” I am very proud of winning honor for my country with the 10th place score in Dakar. All the obstructions we meet in the way witness the growth of our team. I can get today’s achievement, all thanks to co-driver Liao Ming’s help, my wife’s support, and all the effort made my my pit team. In the future, I hope more and more Chinese racers can come to Dakare and show the world what is Chinese speed.”
